Agonist

An agonist is a molecule that binds to or activates a receptor. The brain functions through a series of chemical transmissions. Many types of chemicals produce a reaction or hinder a reaction. These include minerals, proteins, neurotransmitters, hormones. These biochemical responses send messages through the brain to the body. Heroin and other opioids are examples of agonists.
