Alcoholism

Alcohol Use Disorder is the term now used to describe someone suffering from alcohol addiction. When a person cannot stop drinking, despite repeated negative consequences and numerous attempts to stop, he or she may be suffering from alcoholism. An alcoholic may still function at work yet still suffer from alcoholism. Additionally,  a person with a predisposition for the disease can quickly descend into alcohol addiction within months of heavy drinking. For others, the process can be slow taking years for the transition between drinking too much to becoming an alcoholic. Generally, there is a physical, mental and emotional need to drink that if ignored results in psychological and physical reactions.
