Alcohol Use

Alcohol use is the consumption of alcohol in a variety of forms: beer, wine, hard liquor, mixed drinks (such as gin and tonic). Alcohol use by itself does not represent a potential problem. However, when a person drinks to excess, or drinks to avoid feeling emotions, then chances are the individual will be on the path to alcohol use disorder. Different alcoholic beverages contain varying amounts of alcohol. That fact, combined with a person’s gender, weight, health, and mental state, and family history can influence the progression from occasional alcohol use to alcohol use disorder.
