For those who have been under the influence of addiction and are seeking to recover, making amends is part of the healing process. There are stages of healing from addiction. Once a person has been stabilized, and is capable of maintaining abstinence, he or she will begin the process of self-reflection. Making amends is part of this healing process. Addiction touches the lives of many beyond the addict. Amends goes beyond an apology; it is an attempt to set things right by changing behaviors. There are different forms of amends, and depending upon the circumstance caution and guidance are needed in determining how to make an amend and when to make it.
